A fitness and bodywork studio in San Diego, hit by COVID shutdowns, running on a Wix site with no HIPAA awareness. The pivot wasn’t just a new website. It was a compliance-first system that let hands-on care continue safely, and kept the doors open.
The starting point
A hands-on practice in a world that suddenly couldn’t be touched.
Azilee and Loren O’Neil built Chain Reaction Therapy on real expertise: structural integration, personal training, bodywork, movement education. Their intelligence lives in bodies in motion, in what a shoulder girdle is doing and why a gait pattern keeps re-injuring. That’s the craft.
Nobody builds a bodywork practice expecting to need encrypted intake flows overnight. And that’s normal. Compliance frameworks and platform migrations are their own profession, not a gap in anyone’s character. But when COVID hit, the questions stacked fast: shutdowns, shifting health guidelines, sensitive client information moving through a Wix site that was never built for any of it.
Underneath the logistics sat the real question every hands-on practitioner was asking that year: “Can we stay open?”
That question deserves a real answer, not a prettier website. With the right sequence and the right guardrails, a practice like theirs can keep doing the work it’s brilliant at, safely, without the founders becoming compliance experts themselves.
What was actually going on
They didn’t need a better website. They needed compliance to become the thing that kept them open.
The discovery sessions reframed it: HIPAA compliance wasn’t a bureaucratic hurdle to clear after the redesign. It was the strategic advantage, the thing that would let in-person care continue safely while others stayed shut. So the sequence flipped: compliance and care flow first, platform second, polish last. That diagnostic thinking is what now runs as the Signal Check.

Wix to WordPress with HIPAA-compliant intake at the center: encrypted forms collecting sensitive health information, synced with scheduling and payments in one flow.

Offerings restructured by modality and session type, aligned to a simplified pricing model with clear packages. Clients book confidently; the team stops negotiating custom pricing by email.

The sequence note
